Product overview

The primary side of the distribution

Medium voltage cubicles sit between the incoming supply and the transformer. They switch, protect and isolate. In most plants they are also the equipment the utility or the network operator has an opinion about.

KYN28A-12 is a metal-clad cubicle for 12 kV indoor installation; XGN□-12 is a fixed-type cubicle in ring and terminal configurations. Both use vacuum circuit breakers or load break switches depending on the duty.

Because the documentation position for medium voltage is narrower than for low voltage, we state it plainly below, so it can be checked at enquiry stage.

Documentation position. The test reports we hold for these cubicles cover three insulation tests: power-frequency withstand, lightning impulse withstand and the auxiliary circuit withstand. Rated current, breaking capacity and enclosure protection are declared by the manufacturer and are not measured in those reports.

Product types

Three cubicle types

All 12 kV, all indoor, all built to the same standard family. The difference is the duty and the configuration.
KYN28A-12/1250-31.5Metal-clad, withdrawable truck
The general-purpose cubicle for plant substations and distribution boards where circuits need to be isolated and removed for maintenance.

XGN□-12(F)/T630-20Fixed type, 630 A
A fixed cubicle for smaller distribution points and ring configurations, where the circuit does not need to be withdrawn.

What the reports cover

Two columns: what was measured in the test, and what the manufacturer declares. Keeping them apart is the difference between a document and a claim.

The reports for these cubicles are insulation type tests. Temperature rise, short-circuit making and breaking, and mechanical operation are not covered by them. If your project requires those tests, tell us at enquiry stage and we will confirm what can be provided.

Applications

Where 12 kV cubicles are used

Normally at the boundary between the incoming supply and the plant transformer.

Plant substations

Incoming and outgoing circuits for 12 kV/0.4 kV transformers inside industrial plants.

Ring and terminal configurations

Distribution points where a ring main unit arrangement is specified.

Transformer protection

Fused and breaker-controlled circuits protecting the transformer on the primary side.

FAQ

Questions on this range

Direct answers, including where our documentation stops.
Is this equipment type tested to IEC 62271?

The reports we hold are issued against GB/T 3906-2020, the Chinese standard for this equipment family, and cover insulation tests. They are not IEC 62271 type test reports. If your specification calls for IEC type tests, tell us at enquiry stage and we will confirm whether the requirement can be met before quoting.

Which tests were actually performed?

Three: power-frequency withstand on the main circuit, lightning impulse withstand, and the auxiliary circuit withstand at 2000 V. Temperature rise, short-circuit making and breaking, and mechanical endurance are not part of these reports.

Can the cubicles be configured for our network?

Circuit configuration, protection, metering and cable termination are set by the project drawing. The incoming and outgoing arrangement, the type of breaker or switch, and the relay scheme are agreed before production.

Need 12 kV cubicles for a substation?

Send the single-line diagram and the network parameters. We will confirm the configuration and the documentation that comes with it.
