Powering different industries

The electrical requirement changes with the plant: the duty, the environment, the fault level and the standard. The equipment is usually a variation of the same four ranges.

Industry 01

Industrial manufacturing

Factories where the electrical system follows the production process: lines that start in sequence, motors that cycle, and a maintenance team that needs to isolate one section without stopping the plant.

The distribution board is usually the largest single item, and the motor control centre is the one that gets modified most often after commissioning.

Common electrical requirements

  • Main distribution sized for future line expansion
  • Motor feeders with the starting method the process needs
  • Segregation of production and utility supplies
  • Metering per line or per department
  • Control panels built to the machine builder's sequence

Relevant solutions

Power distribution and industrial control. Recommended equipment: GGD / GCK switchgear, motor control panels.

Industry 02

Commercial buildings

Offices, retail and mixed-use buildings, where the distribution is layered: a main board in the electrical room, sub-boards per floor or per tenant, and metering that has to match the lease.

Space is usually the constraint, and the noise of the equipment matters as much as its rating.

Common electrical requirements

  • Compact assemblies for small electrical rooms
  • Tenant metering and sub-metering
  • Generator or UPS incoming for life-safety loads
  • Low noise and low heat dissipation
  • Fire-rated cable interfaces and segregation

Relevant solutions

Power distribution for the main and sub-boards, industrial control for plant room equipment. Recommended: GGD assemblies and XM / XL-21 distribution boxes.

Industry 03

Infrastructure

Water treatment, pumping, transport and public works. The equipment often sits in an unheated room, a kiosk or a chamber, and is expected to run for years between visits.

Enclosure protection, corrosion resistance and remote monitoring usually matter more than circuit density.

Common electrical requirements

  • Higher IP ratings and corrosion-resistant finish
  • Anti-condensation heating in damp chambers
  • Remote I/O and telemetry interface
  • Duty/standby pump changeover
  • Equipment sized for unattended operation

Relevant solutions

Power distribution and industrial control. Recommended: pump and process control panels, switchgear assemblies.

Industry 04

Energy & power

Plant substations, generation support and power rooms, where the medium voltage side and the low voltage side meet at the transformer.

Documentation is the deciding factor in this sector. Reports, test records and the standard behind them are checked before price is discussed.

Common electrical requirements

  • 12 kV incoming and transformer protection
  • High fault levels and short-time withstand ratings
  • Protection coordination and relay settings
  • Metering and event recording
  • Type test documentation for the assemblies used

Relevant solutions

Power distribution and transformers & power equipment. Recommended: KYN28A-12 cubicles, GCK assemblies.

Industry 05

Industrial facilities

Water treatment, HVAC plant rooms, workshops and warehouses: the supporting infrastructure of a site, where the equipment is functional, accessible and easy to maintain.

These projects tend to have a fixed budget and a short programme, so clarity at quotation stage saves the most time.

Common electrical requirements

  • Plant room distribution with clear labelling
  • Control panels for chillers, AHUs and pumps
  • Interface to the building management system
  • IP54 or higher for wet and dusty areas
  • Spare capacity for future plant

Relevant solutions

Industrial control for plant room panels and power distribution for the boards. Recommended: control panels, XL-21 cabinets.
